The SSE Hydro opened in September 2013 and is one of the most exciting new music and sport venues in the UK. It has a distinctive, elliptical sloping shape and is designed to host global entertainment and sporting events (including netball and gymnastics during Glasgow’s 2014 Commonwealth Games). Its flexible arena has the capacity to hold over 12,000 spectators. The professionals at Black Light, who have extensive experience with AV integration, including AMX system programming, as well as knowledge of Traxon products and e:cue system programming, were assigned to supply, install, and commission high-spec, integrated LED and AV systems for the venue’s two VIP rooms – the Wind and Water Suites. Alongside eight 70” LCD Public Displays, 1,026 Traxon 16PXL Boards were installed, and play a key element in the installation. With 16 individually controllable pixels, these fixtures provide an incredibly flexible LED light source and bathe the VIP suites in a beautiful sea of colorful light. Six e:cue Video Micro Converters (VMC) controlling 49,248 channels of DMX, allow for the creation of a vast range of lighting scenarios, video, and graphical displays. The finished results are spectacular where guests and performers entertained in the VIP lounges can enjoy beautiful ambient and state-of-the-art effect lighting.
